Ross 1 - 2 Pegasus

Last Sunday, Ross Juniors Under 9’s played Pegasus Juniors Under 9’s in the County Cup final at Edgar Street. The boys travelled to the ground in style thanks to George Young’s  supplying an executive coach free of charge for parents and supporters. On arrival the boys were shown to the away teams dressing room, a rare luxury for boys who are more accustomed to changing by the side of a pitch or in their parents cars. Prior to the game the boys were shown a video message form Andrew Strauss the England cricket captain wishing them luck for the final! The horn went and Harry led the boys onto the pitch to a raucous reception, over 90 supporters had attended from Ross. The support was very much appreciated by the boys and helped to settle some nerves in such unfamiliar surroundings.

Pegasus began the first half strongly, their powerful physical style unsettling Ross. Inevitably one of Pegasus swift breaks led to the first goal for them. Ross who started slowly began to respond, Tommy fashioned a chance for Elliot which narrowly went wide, Luke began to threaten their defence with his powerful running and the defence of Nathaniel and Harry were magnificent in stemming the Pegasus threat. 1-0 at half time to Pegasus was the right score though the highlight of the half was one brilliant bit of individual skill from Tommy that drew grasps and applause from the crowd.

Ross were a different team in the second half though and took the game to Pegasus straight from the kick off. William, Liam, Lewis and Matt all working industriously began to carve out chances. A great cross found Elliot’s head and the scores were levelled. Joey when called on made some stunning saves and Ross began to assert themselves, chance after chance came Ross’ way but alas none were taken. Pegasus received a direct free kick following a decent challenge by Harry presented them with one of their few chances in the second half, they took the kick well and went into a 2-1 lead. The boys continued to battle as well as playing some quite incisive passing football at times. The big pitch began to take its toll on the boys and despite their efforts an equaliser could not be found. A professional Pegasus Under 9 side ran down the clock by keeping the ball in the corners and multiple substitutions for the last five minutes. The score finished 2-1 to Pegasus, who completed an impressive league and cup double. Ross though could hold their heads high, many neutral spectators commented on the passing style and the good football on show form the boys.

Ross juniors would like to thank all parents and spectators for making the day special and especially Dee and George Young’s coaches.
